Woodlands Park Primary School have installed a 30kWp Solar PV array on their roofs.
Woodlands Park Primary School is a small community school situated in the heart of Woodlands Park Village with 140 pupils. We are passionate to ensure that the children at Woodlands Park make excellent progress and exceed expectations, we therefore provide them with an environment that offers challenges within an atmosphere of care and support. As an Eco-School an important part of our culture is to ensure that sustainability helps to form life long habits for our pupils whilst leaving a green legacy for the school. They have been introducing sustainability from the ground up into the school. They were looking to achieve a lower carbon footprint and become more cost efficient on their energy consumption and reduce costs. The Solar PV project would exceed these aims without the need for capital expenditure.
“We have adopted the simplest aspects of sustainability, such as growing our own fruit and vegetables, raising chickens and creating our own compost. By installing solar panels at the school we have now taken a much larger, and greener step forward to creating our own energy, and are now achieving our green aspirations whilst encouraging the children to learn’ – Alison Penny – Headteacher
‘For a small primary school like us, going down the route of renewable energy does seem to provide us with a win, win solution. Not only are we able to reduce our carbon footprint and clearly demonstrate to the
children the importance of saving resources, but it makes total financial sense too – everyone is a winner!’ – Paula Wells-Cole – School Business Manager
‘As a Governing Body we are conscious of our schools effect on the environment and are delighted to be setting an example to our pupils and local community by installing solar panels. We are very proud to be the trailblazers of sustainable energy for schools in the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, and look forward to the savings on our energy bills so we can use the money elsewhere to benefit the pupils of our school.’ – Georgie Higgs – Chair of Governors
