Fairhaven Primary School have installed a 36.75kWp Solar PV array on their roofs.
Fairhaven Primary School is a small primary based in Stourbridge, West Midlands. Students are with them through a very important stage in their lives and at Fairhaven they want to make sure they have the best possible start and learning experience. Fairhaven Primary is a very proud Eco-School and they want to teach their pupils how what they do can make a big difference within the community and their lives. They are working towards the prestigious Green Flag award and solar proved to be a great choice for them not only from a teaching standpoint but to enable them to reduce their costs.
The introduction of solar came from an Eco-Schools email. Reading through what was on offer the school felt solar was an interesting idea and within their action plans they had energy cost reduction to address. As a big user of electricity in particular, they thought this a good way to move forwards. It is about the future of the children and leading the way, showing children how they can make a difference and doing something about it. They also wanted to save money; the school is 45 years old and poorly insulated. They have large heating bills, which is mostly electric, so the solar panels will help to reduce day to day running costs.

“Participating in the Schools’ Solar PV programme is important to us. We are teaching the children about the role we all have to play in having a responsible attitude to where and how the energy we use is produced.” – Mr D Rowe – Headteacher
“The whole project has been really exciting, right from the initial idea to the installation. The curriculum aspect of the project and the resources Evogreen provide to help us teach the children about solar power will be a fantastic addition to our children’s learning experiences” – Tom Garner – Deputy Head & Eco-Council Leader
