St Helena School have installed a total of 98.25kWp Solar PV array on their roofs.
St Helena School is a secondary school located in the centre of Colchester in north Essex, and is rated by Ofsted as a Good with capacity for 1,000 students. St Helena specialises in media studies. The School site is steeped in roman history, within its playing field the remains of an ancient roman temple have been discovered and excavations have produced many roman artefacts.
It was self-evident that the decision to install a solar PV system would not only address the issue of the increasing cost of energy but also demonstrate the School’s commitment to being a sustainable organisation within the community. The purpose of the project was more than just an exercise in cost savings. The benefits went beyond cost providing a tangible link for students learning and understanding concerning the importance of sustainability. St Helena School was not able to commit the funds to an outright purchase of the solar PV system, so the decision was taken to lease the equipment.
