Manningtree High School

Manningtree High School have installed a 47.5kWp Solar PV array on their roofs.

The Background

Manningtree is a small secondary school based in Essex. They believe that schools must make the best use of public funding. Manningtree High are actively seeking ways to reduce their costs whilst maintain their high standards. Solar PV proved to be a great option for the school as it encompasses what they are trying to achieve and requires no capital expenditure through the Carbon Trust approved funding. In addition, they are keen to communicate to the students and the wider community, the benefits of sustainability through a working example of renewable technology in their own school.

“Students at Manningtree High School have taken a keen, committed interest in caring for our environment for a number of years. The school council have been involved in discussions about solar power and the proposals that the Governors considered. As a forward looking school we have shown that we can achieve significant benefits for ourselves and for the community by committing to a long term renewable energy scheme.” – Deborah Hollister – Headteacher

“We believe it will raise awareness in the community in respect of the schools attitude to the ‘Green Agenda’ and our plans for further ways to ensure we have energy efficient buildings. Altogether we strive to demonstrate leadership in this way. Thank you very much Evogreen.” – Carol Sinclair – Director of Operations

“It is nice to see how solar, a very current technology, can fit and compliment a 1930’s school like ours without ruining the character and feel, whilst offering so many added benefits.” – Brett Colley – Staff Governor

“We are incorporating the provided resources into our science schemes of work, as it is a great opportunity to enthuse the students about renewable energy. Actually seeing the solar cells, understanding how they work and using data from the generation website allows the students to experience science and technology in action.” – John Knights – Head of Science
